The Heart of My Work

My work honors and expands the literacies of liberation, the languages we must learn to pronounce freedom. Astrology is a profound tool for personal growth, and can significantly enhance self-knowledge when it works to shrink the fiction of the West.

We give the sky meaning, we are what keeps the heavens animate. The moment you were born has significant meaning. It is a map of the heavens, it is a promise of potentialities, and finger-print of grace.

As Alice Sparkly Kat says to me, those of us who are still living despite the world ending a long time ago, divination is no luxury.

What we do in a session

  • Interrogate, uncover, and re-collect the fractured pieces of a self shaped by empire.

  • Move through anger, melancholia, desire, and humor with care.

  • Create space for decolonization of the self.

  • Name clear next steps. The reading echoes forward and continues to work.

By using the reading to queer time and place, I aim to use the tarot as a decolonial tactic that allows us to recognize liberatory possibilities for a postcolonial future. Emma Perez reads Cherie Moraga to tell us “the possibility of a decolonial future is reliant upon the subversion of methods that produce normative notions of gender, sexuality, race, and being in general.” The reading requires comprehending temporal unity. To see into a tenable future red reading reconsiders our self understandings, sense of belonging and subjectivities.

  • Decolonial Imaginary

    Following Emma Pérez, we work in the interval between the colonial and the not-yet. The reading loosens conditioned narratives and makes room for a different future.

  • Queering Time and Place

    My astrological practice is historical. I calculate my charts in a whole-sign configuration, I use decans and fixed-stars, I use the major aspects. But I also examine the outer planets, and I use astrology despite and in resistance to the West.

  • If you're on the fence about connecting with Chris, read this and you'll know why you should schedule. For my 30th birthday I gifted myself a natal reading with Chris after hearing them on the Witch Wave podcast, the timing could not have been more perfect if I had written it. They are the author of Red Tarot: A Decolonial Guide To Divinatory Literacy, published by North Atlantic Books.

Christopher was born and raised in San Bernardino, California, in community with the Serrano people of the Pines, the Yuhaaviatam clan of the San Manuel Nation.

As a trained educator committed to cultivating classrooms of emancipatory possibility, they work with students around the world to plant and nurture the seeds of a divinatory practice—finely weaving tarot, astrology, and curanderismo with decolonial, queer epistemologies and critical feminist pedagogies.
